I DIDN'T RECEIVE A MANUAL

If you received a floppy, the manual is located on the disk in the Help.txt file.

DOS PROMPT IN WINDOWS XP

In Windows XP it is called Command Prompt rather than DOS prompt. Go to Start on the Windows desktop, click Programs, Accessories, then Command Prompt to get to DOS.

NOT ABLE TO VIEW NETWORK DRIVES IN Sylcount®

You have to map the drive before you can see it. Sylcount® does not provide for server selection, i.e. \\Thor\c style of accessing disks on a network.

If you go into Windows Explorer and click on the "Map Drive" button, you
can assign the remote network drive to a local drive letter. Then that letter will appear in the Sylcount®"drives" drop down box and you can navigate the remote disk to whatever your permissions allow.

UNINSTALLING Sylcount® II

First, move the authorization by inserting the first Sylcount® disk in your disk drive. Go to the DOS or Command Prompt and type a: or b:\winmove. Move the authorization from c: to a: (or b:). Don't worry if you receive an error message.

Next, uninstall the program by going to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, select Sylcount® II. Then check to make sure Windows removed the folder; if not, delete it. Next, remove any shortcuts by clicking your right mouse button on the Sylcount® icon in the list and delete it.

Sylcount® IS NOT SAVING THE CFG FILE

When you are in the Select and Count Document Files dialog box, are the Current log and Current Options path names correct? If not, Cancel the dialog box and select the $ icon and Load the option you want to use. We recommend saving your log file and cfg file in the Sylcount® folder. Select the cfg you want to Load and click OK. If the cfg you want is not found, you may not have saved it previously. Re-read the Installation Manual for examples of how to create and save log and cfg files.

Sylcount® IS NOT COUNTING CORRECTLY

Sylcount® II will count the document file formats as listed on the original Sylcount® diskette. For further information regarding file formats, please refer to "File Formats in WordPerfect" in the Installation Manual. Sylcount® II will not count converted files or documents. If you have converted documents from one version of WordPerfect to another, please refer to "File Formats in WordPerfect" for complete instructions on how to solve this issue.

INSTALLING MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF Sylcount®-II

Create a folder (directory) for Sylcount®-II for WP5.1, i.e. Syl51. On installation, specify the name of the directory to install to.

When installing Sylcount®-II for WP6/7/8, create a directory, i.e. Syl678. On installation, specify the name of the directory to install to.

You can put these on your Windows desktop and name them appropriately, so you know which version to use for counting specific WordPerfect documents.
